technology to make a true impact on the world

I have looked at some of the data, I have looked at the work of Hans Rosling, gapminder.com I think, Matt Ridley, he wrote the book: 'The Rational Optimist', Steven Pinker 'The Myth of Violence', these are all-, I go to the TED Conference, I am interested not in what leads the news, because the news is a reflection of our overactive amygdalas that are looking for danger. So the news mirrors our lust for blood, because we pay attention to it. But in reality the world has never been less violent than it is now, the rate of progress that we're making has improved, the world has doubled life expectancy across the planet, even the places that are doing terrible are doing better than they once were when you look at the big picture. And so there is enough evidence I think that things are getting better, but for me it's like there's never been such geniuses with access to so many great tools to make a positive impact on the planet. Singularity University which is in Silicon Valley, asks its students: What can you do to help a billion people? How are you going to make a contribution that can help the lives of a billion people? Why? Because the technologies that we have today allow individuals to do what only governments and corporations could do decades ago. So it changes everything. So I ask: What can I do to help a billion people? What can you do to help a billion people? I think that is an exciting conversation to have.
